CHILDREN'S LIBRARY: OUTREACH Outreach to children with special needs Our Outreach Programs are a unique part of our library, as we reach out to children, who because of distance, circumstance or disability, will never be able to visit the library. ![]() Outreach Program Locations:

Since 1986,
staff members from Montreal Children's Library have visited local
children's hospitals and other organizations weekly, presenting story
programs, singing songs and entertaining youngsters with puppets. At Montreal Children's Hospital, the librarian spends an afternoon at the outpatient clinic, reading stories in both French and English to children awaiting medical treatment. She also visits the classroom of the Psychiatric ward once a week, working closely with the teachers to supplement program content. As well, she visits St. Raphael's Centre, a school in Montreal's north end for children with emotional and learning difficulties, telling stories and interesting the children in reading. Story-time is built into the program at Shriner's Hospital where another librarian goes to read and tell stories, and sing songs, in both French and English. Librarians also visit the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf and the Montreal Assocation for the Blind to present story times to children and teens regularly. |
